Legacy and storytelling Projects MINNEAPOLIS

Every person has a story worth telling. Most never get told.

A guided, personalized experience that captures the irreplaceable stories of a life — in whatever form brings it most alive — so the people who love you can know and remember you as you truly were.

Don't let the "same old" stories die with the person

Every family has people who tell stories... the ones told every holiday, that start with "did I ever tell you about the time...", the jokes only they thought were funny, recipes that only exist in muscle memory, or lessons learned they may not have passed on.

Think about what happens to those stories when they're gone. Most families have felt that loss — and the realization that the story you roll your eyes hearing now may be the very thing you miss most later.

Legacy and Storytelling Projects are how you make sure that doesn't happen to your family.

what it is

Real stories, told completely

Legacy and Storytelling Projects are a guided, personalized process led by me that captures a person's stories in the format that fits them best. It adapts to who they are, how they communicate, and what they most want to preserve.

What makes the process different is me. I have 25 years of professional storytelling and interviewing experience as a corporate marketing professional, and a gift for getting people to open up in ways they didn't expect. I know how to ask questions and draw out stories people often assume aren't worth telling, helping them discover just how interesting they really are. More on my background →

What it is not: a fill-in-the-blank book, a subscription service sending prompts nobody answers, homework starting with enthusiasm and stalling later. Those are well-intentioned but, for most, end up as good intentions sitting on a shelf.

The story is already there. My job is to bring it out.

what a project can look like

Each project is built around the person, not the other way around

There is no standard format for Legacy and Storytelling Projects because there is no standard person. The form is always chosen to serve who they are and how they best express themselves. Some projects are intimate and small, while others can span multiple sessions and formats. All of them produce something the family can return to again and again. Projects can include:

  • Recorded conversations

  • Video documentation

  • Written memoirs

  • Letters to family members for future milestones

  • Photo albums narrated in their own voice

  • Family recipes captured on camera

  • Family lore and traditions preserved for the next generation

who this is for

It's for anyone with a story worth telling (which is everyone)

  • For the person who wants to do this for themselves. You have things you want your family to know, but have never found the right moment to say. Your life deserves to exist somewhere beyond your own memory. This is how you give it to the people you love.

  • For the adult child who wants to give this as a gift. You've been trying to figure out what to give parents — that says you see them, that you know their life was worth more than an obituary will capture, and that you want to know the real story while you can.

  • For the family facing a serious illness. When time is limited, the urgency to begin becomes real. A Legacy and Storytelling Project can be started at any point (including during active decline) and I adapt the pace, format, and scope to what the situation allows. Even a small project becomes something the family values forever.

How it works

Every Legacy and Storytelling Project starts with a scoping conversation — a discussion about who the project is for, what they want to preserve, what format makes sense, and what the timeline looks like given their situation.

From there, I design a project structure specific to them. Sessions are scheduled and held. The story gets told — warmly, enjoyably, in a process most people describe as one of the most genuinely pleasurable experiences they've had in years.

Because I show up, ask the right questions, and do not leave the outcome to motivation that may or may not sustain itself, the project actually gets done.

If a project isn't right yet, that's fine, too

A story is ready to be told... let's capture it while the person is still here to tell it

Don't wait for the feeling of reaching for something and finding it isn't there anymore. Legacy and Storytelling Projects start with a conversation. That's it. Let's talk about who this is for, what they'd most want to preserve, and what a project could look like.
